Given the complexity of both learning processes and individual differences in learning, no single discipline or profession could or should be expected to have all the answers. Taking a multidisciplinary and multi-perspective approach to interpreting and working with children has a far greater likelihood of achieving positive results.

Toward that end, we’ve developed a range of evaluation and management tools appropriate for clinicians from various backgrounds as well as for teachers, parents, and kids themselves. We create ways to foster communication and meaningful alliances between physicians, psychologists, educators, language specialists, social workers, and others concerned with optimizing kids’ learning potential.

These joint efforts can promote a way of understanding and helping kids with differences in learning without stigmatizing them and without treating them, simply by creating a richer, more dimensional, more specific, and ultimately, truer profile of each learner.

Pessimism is one of the worst complications of a disappointing school performance. Far too many kids have been told or feel that because of their learning difficulties, they "will never amount to anything."

These prophecies can come true and aggressive counteraction is warranted. We believe that parents, teachers, and clinicians must devote considerable time and effort to helping kids see the possibilities for themselves in the future.

Interestingly, when we asked a group of parents and students to name what they felt was the key benefit to our approach, the overwhelming majority echoed "it gave us hope." Optimism is central to our mission. All kids need to gaze ahead with excitement and a positive outlook. All kids deserve a hopeful vision of the future.

Every mind is uniquely endowed. As a result, our emphasis on the different ways individual kids learn and find success in their lives has relevance for all kids. Every student —not just those who are struggling—can benefit from having a greater understanding of his own strengths and weaknesses—a picture of how his mind works—along with insight and a plan for optimizing learning and performance.

Helping parents, teachers and students to acknowledge and appreciate these differences is the first step. If achieved, the long term benefits are bound to include a very large group of people who feel good about themselves and in general, feel good about life.
