My daughter
Posted: 08 Nov 2007 12:52 PM
My daughter is in 1st grade. She is a bright, social and energetic little girl. She is starting to struggle though with her reading. She consistently is getting on yellow or red in class due to talking and bothering others while they are working (talking to them). It was the only N on her report card. She is at level, but is starting to get behind. When we are doing work here at the house, she has trouble focusing, paying attention, and remembering a word that I just told her how to pronounce. She will forget it on the next page. She wiggles and squirms the whole time she is reading and doing homework, and the teacher says she is a pack rat and always figgeting with things in class. She doesn't get out of her seat necessarily but wiggles and always needs to be touching something. I am starting to get at a loss of what to do. Should I enroll her in private tutoring? I refuse to label her with ADHD until all other resources have been tried. I was a school counselor for years and have seen too many labeled that way. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Lisa
