Is this ADHD? Posted: 04 Mar 2008 12:23 PM |
My daughter has recently been 'diagnosed' as exceptional with LD Communication. In the report it was noted that she often rocks her body and will lay her head on the desk when writing or doing her school work. The opinion of the Psychologist was that it's either an anxiety issue (she used the rocking for comfort) or Attention Deficit.
She has a physical booked for next week with our family doctor and i will mention it to her.
Any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance for any input. |

| Your daughter could be rocking as a soothing strategy- hence the anxiety issue. Another possible cause of the rocking could be stimulation- hence the attentional concern. Combining the rocking and the fact that she lays her head down has anyone suggested an occupational therapy evaluation? Most people tend to think of OT as addressing fine motor issues. But your daughter might be dealing with some sensory issues. I wonder about the muscle tone of her upper body. She could be fatigued. when siting at her desk do her feet touch the floor? Some kids do really well with a a little box to put their feet on. It helps align their torso and provides support. Just some ideas. |

There is another way to look at these issue.
It can be a psycomotricist issue.
Myabe a combination of a emotional issue and a psycomotricist issue.
The energy needed for a kid to sustain the body during educational activities is very high and can be very dificult for a kid that has dificulties to study, or emotional issues to stand still during lesson.
Its the energy that fills up the muscle and sustain the body, and organize the movemets that is not been enough or not beeing well directioned.
There is like a obstruction between the head-inteligence and the body that makes everything look very difficult.
Its always a question of which one came first, the scholl difficulty, the emotional issue, or the muscle/psycomotricist issue.
Workig with the motricist system, your kid will be doing activities that need concentration, and emotional control. It´s a good place to start, and to be sure that the concentration, emotional, physic issues will be very weel worked out.
I recommed you to look after these links above.
