Re: Differences in Learning - The Three Pathways of Memory 1/17/2006 12:13:38 PM   (Total replies: 1)
There are three pathways of memory based on brain dominance; Left, Right and Kenic. All subjects should be taught offering to the students, the choice of any or all of the three pathways. This approch teaches to the strength of the student's ability to index and recal information. The article, Basic Mathematics, is devoted only to the left brain dominant learner. No visuals for the right brain dominant and no physicl objects for the Kinetc. No wonder so many students find math hard -- ...

QUALITY EDUCATION IN MONTANA? 1/20/2007 9:32:49 PM   (Total replies: 0)
Here follows just the Overview of a report Chick Bruce and I delivered (in final form) to the Montana Quality Schools Interim Committee in July, 2005. They published the full report as part of their record, but otherwise ignore it. We did this report as non-paid public service. The recommendations by the Interim Committee to the 2005 Montana Legislature was totally rejected. The recommendation was a very complex funding forumlae. The 2005 Montana Legislature simply threw more money at ...

HOW TO IGNITE EDUCATION -- Brain dominance theory 1/20/2007 9:07:46 PM   (Total replies: 1)
HOW TO IGNITE EDUCATION --Ponder this: Our entrenched Left-brain dominant educational system fails 60% of the population. By Jim Miller, Partner, Montana Virtual Educational Collaborative The failure is bidirectional: The left-brain dominant (LBD) educational system fails itself as well as the right-brain dominant (RBD) students and the Kinetic learner students (KLS). WHAT IS BRAIN DOMINANCE? First, some background about brain dominance:  It is genetic in ...

Partners in Prime -- The Study Buddy Concept 1/20/2007 8:58:19 PM   (Total replies: 0)
STUDY BUDDY -- If it can work for Industry and Academia, why not grade school? By Jim Miller From Partners in Prime we learned that Akibia Network and Security Solutions Division saw its pile of chips grow into a $20 million dollar pot with 40 employees in a few short years. It is growing, double-up, and expects $24 million in sales by the end of 2004. The winning hand was a deuce. One face-up card was the requirement that all engineers spend 15% of their time in training – a combo of ...

6. Collaboration trumps competition. Assign as a project, one which requires two to five classmates to jointly participate in a specific project which is age and competence appropriate. Each projectmate chooses or is assigned a defined part of the joint project -- the "water boy/girl" approach. Each projectmate defines his/her individual the outcome, the steps to the outcome and the time line with time/event markers. Several "mark-up" sessions allow the group to write (sing, dance, math, ...

Re: Acccomodations -dual path. 2/13/2005 3:29:49 PM   (Total replies: 1)
The "simple" answer is that math is being taught according to Left Brain Dominant (LBD) dogmas to a Right Brain Dominant (RBD) student. RBD students need to be taught using pictures, physical objects (especially the kinetic student). The teacher needs to use "relational" teaching methods as opposed to "rote" teaching methods for the RBD student. My thesis is that all subjects should be presented in three learning modes: LBD, RBD and a subset of RBD, the Kinetic learner (hands-on, physical ...
